International Tree Climbing Day

(Stepping outside of the norm today for some random reminiscing) You know how there are all those proclaimed “days” for nonsensical things? Well, I just learned about this one and it made me kind of happy. As a little girl I ran around with two of my boy cousins and would do anything to impress them. One time one of them scooped up a handful of mud from the bottom of a pond and dared me to eat it…I did. Another time they told me to put a dead baby bird’s head in my mouth….I did. They used to make us go through different tests like running, swimming, and, you guessed it: climbing trees. We even had one special tree at our Grandma’s house that we had a special code for to meet at.

Anyway, when I saw this little note about March 22 being International Tree Climbing Day on a calendar I just had to smile. It brought back a lot of great memories. After all, I spent a lot of time in trees as a kid.

This is a view of our house from my favorite climbing tree. I used to love windy days at the top of a tree because, while the swaying was terrifying, it was also exhilarating.

Did you climb trees as a kid? Did you have a favorite? Share your favorite tree climbing picture on my twitter or facebook page. Bonus points if you go climb a tree today!
