Ladder shelves

What do most people do when they have no where to put their printer? Buy some kind of desk or shelving unit to accommodate it. What do I do? Go out to my shed to see what I can come up with that's rustic, free, and imperfectly charming.

That's how this little project came about. I have somewhat of a minimalist nature and hate to see clutter. Everything should have it's place that is out of sight. So, it drove me nuts to see the printer sitting awkwardly on a side table next to the desk. I didn't have much to work with. At first I toyed with building something out of pallets, but my experience with woodwork at that point was not up to the challenge. I had been using this old ladder (left from the previous owners of the house) as a blanket holder. When I saw it standing in the corner I saw what I needed.

The shelves are just some pallet boards held together by a couple boards underneath. One corner of each shelf is supported on the ladder and the rest by screws in the wall where the studs are. It took only a couple of hours (and only that much because it took me awhile to decide exactly what I wanted).

I plan to add at least one more shelf up towards the top to hold some sort of decoration.

I've had a lot of fun putting together our "home office" area. We just redid that desk. Check it out here!

Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Aren't they though? I have the other half of this ladder in the shed, but I'm not sure what to do with it yet :)
