I found it! My Style!

Our home has always been a little mixed up as far as design goes. We’ve had a hodge podge of decorations that I have shifted around and around trying to achieve a look that is vaguely formed in my mind. Turns out, moving around decorations and furniture don’t make them into the color and style that you’re hoping for. Crazy, right? The only room I’m absolutely satisfied with is my son’s room, and I’ve figured out what distinguishes it from the others.

Uniformity. The colors, decor, and furniture all match because I designed the room all at once. It wasn’t thrown together with random pieces that I liked separately at the time, but do not work as a whole (which is the case for every other room).

So, I’ve decided its time to find my style and stick with it. I dream of making our little home cozy and beautiful, and in order to do that, I need to grasp that vision, define it clearly, and go for it. I’ve been doing a lot of Pinterest and blog searching to discover what rooms and designs that I truly admire.

First, ever since I started reading Lauren’s blog Bless’er House, I’ve been captivated by the pictures of the rooms and her ability to turn her builder’s grade home into a cozy cottage without breaking the bank.

 

Another blog I can’t help oohing and ahhing at all the time is the Liz Marie blog.

Also, Jenna Sue Design keeps me coming back.

Finally, Miss Mustard Seed’s home:

Seeing any common theme? Yep, I’m in love with light, bright neutrals with little splashes of color. Rustic, vintage, and old world character make me weak in the knees. Soft inviting textures give me the goose bumps. Pastel blues, greens, and grays draw me in.

So, that is the style I hope to emulate. Phew, I’m so glad to have that decided. I feel like I can really move forward in our home creating escapades. We’re a long way from what I have envisioned, but we’ll get there.
