Christmas Tree Candle Holder

We were a little behind on getting our decorations down this year. We just now did it. In our defense we were on vacation Anyway, as much as I am always ready to get back to normal life after Christmas, it always saddens me to see the tree go down. For as long as I can remember, the Christmas tree held a special spot in our holiday traditions. We would always make a big ordeal of going out to the farm, trudging around for hours, maybe having a snowball fight or two, searching through hundreds of trees to find the perfect one, and watching our strong Dad cut it down. We would decorate to music and admire our work all season long. We’ve carried on this tradition in our new little family, and this year, like all others, left me feeling forlorn as Brian hauled it out. What to do with these feelings, I thought. And then the idea came to me! “I’m going to use part of that tree for decoration!”

So, the Christmas tree candle holder tradition is born. I hope to do this every year and build up a lovely collection of them.

After we cut the stump, I drilled a shallow cavity for candles to go into. Then I drove a nail, head side down into the hole to give the candles better stability. I used sharpie for the year.

I thought about painting it or cleaning off the bark and wax, but decided to leave it. I love the natural look of it.

This candle was a garage sale find. I got a big box of them for $5.00. I’ve found so many uses for them already.
