Yesterday was a blowing, swirling snowy type of day. The white stuff came down hard all day and we were force to stay in for most of it. I didn’t mind though. If I can get my hands on a good project, and get a few things done around the house, it’s a good day for me. We had a dissassembled spool in our basement that my husband brought home. I already had something planned for one of the circular pieces, but the other was free and full of potential. I settled on this idea of a giant clock.
This project was as easy as staining and painting. The stain I used was Minwax dark walnut, which on other pieces I’ve used it on tends to turn out really dark. I didn’t really want that shade this time, so I put on a really thin layer and wiped it off immediately.
To make the numbers I cut a stencil of an “I”, “V”, and “X” out of some sturdy cardboard. I used a white paint leftover from my faux planked table project, so this little project was completely free to me since I used only things on hand.
We hung it in this corner that was just screaming for a big piece of decoration. It’s a very focal corner of our living room, so I wanted it to be something eye catching and full of charm.
I think this clock fits the bill quite nicely. Obviously I don’t have the hands and gears and such in it to make it a functioning clock, and I’m still debating on whether I want to. What do you think?
Now, I don’t want any of you to miss a chance to win $100, so if you didn’t see the giveaway post, here is a link: Leap into Spring. After a snowy day like today, I could use a little spring cheer.
Oh I LOVE it! It turned out SO cute! I’m actually working on a huge clock as we speak!! Great minds must think alike.
I love the roman numeral numbers, too!

This is beautiful! I love the dark stain you used. We had the same horrible blowing snow and cold temperatures here. I started the laundry room overhaul I have been planning. The nice thing about the cold and snow is you are inside and have more time on your hands to do home improvement and decor projects.

I love this - such a great piece. Honestly, I don’t think you need it to be a “working” clock, maybe just put the hands on it. So cute!

Love this!! And I agree it doesn’t need to be a working clock. I think it looks great just as a decorative piece.
